The Heights Lab
The Heights Lab is a full production recording studio/music production facility located in historic Jackson, Mississippi. Owned and operated by engineer Rett Robinson, The Heights Lab encompasses over 1300 square feet, with a state of the art mixing room, tracking room, and iso. Specializing in tracking, producing, foley, composing, mixing and mastering.
One of the earliest forms of The Heights Lab was, “On The Spot Recording” (Started in 2009 by Rett). It was a mobile recording service for artists and bands. He focused on groups wanting demos that needed to capture the rawness of a live show, some clients wanted to get the sound of their church or living room piano. Rett did this as he worked part time at a shoe store and as a DJ, building up his equipment/skills. Later he would begin working for Morrison Brothers Music selling recording studio equipment, Pro Tools, and keyboards. Music retail began to open a gateway to the world he needed.
Working for Morrison Brothers Music helped shift the idea of On The Spot Recording, into a production based studio through building relationships with Mississippi musicians, producers, technicians, and anyone in the music community. He began to learn everything he could about music; from live sound to repairs. More so, on his days off from Morrison Brothers he became the Sound Technician for a local Church. Weekend nights he would even substitute as the soundman at bars in Jackson to try to perfect his craft. This made Rett forever want to take his sound to the next level.
In 2016 Rett moved his laboratory of a studio into a home based setup in Belhaven Heights, this would begin the name The Heights Lab. The studio would continue to grow, in size and stature, gaining a presence in the local Jackson music scene with independent artists of all sorts. Rett’s skill of mixing paired with creating instrumentals continued to blossom. Adding more equipment, and moving locations trying to find the perfect space to call home.
Currently residing in one of Jackson’s oldest buildings, The Heights Lab has grown a sound of its own. Each instrument, microphone, or piece of gear has a story. When you combine them with the historic 12’ ceilings, hand made acoustic panels, and state of the art equipment, it makes a space that you too can create your own sound.
Much more is still in the works, and hopefully will always be. We look forward to working with you, then, now, and in the future.
